夏威夷衫與姆姆muu muu裝
台灣人對於夏威夷杉可一點也不陌生，早期的台灣，能到夏威夷渡假，那一定是有錢人，穿著花襯衫似乎是另一種身分地位的代表。
夏威夷衫是棉質的，再印上獨特的印花設計和鮮豔的顏色而聞名於世，而且一定要是夏威夷出產的，才是正港的夏威夷衫。
夏威夷服裝的歷史
穿衣服是為了什麼？是為了禦寒吧！
在夏威夷，四季皆夏，穿衣服也就沒有了功用。因此古代的夏威夷人是不穿衣服的，最多就隨手拿一塊布或是從樹上摘下葉子遮在身上。在古代的夏威夷，沒有不穿衣服會有羞恥感的這種觀念。
直到西方傳教士在1820年抵達夏威夷時，為了要求當地的原住民上教堂做禮拜，總覺得不穿衣服，對宗教不敬。因此將自己傳教用的袍子送給這些居民，而姆姆裝的長袍基本型態也就誕生了。
這些外來者，用自己國家的想法與觀念去要求當地的原住民要這麼做。突然間，這些健壯、皮膚黝黑的原住民被要求穿上衣服，雖然，這並不適合炎熱、常常下著雷陣雨的夏威夷人呀！
這讓我聯想起，早期台灣蘭嶼的原住民，不也被國民政府要求，不可以穿著丁字褲嗎？試想，穿著西裝褲下海捕魚的情景吧！根本不方便工作的呀！
反正，不論如何？當地的居民開始學習穿上衣服，姆姆裝就這樣的誕生了。它的顏色艷麗多彩，穿起來涼快輕便，很適合熱帶地區的生活或任何輕鬆悠閒的時光，一種尺寸可以適合所有人穿。在這裏要解釋一下，為什麼這很重要，傳統的觀念上，女人「胖」是一種美，所以，來到夏威夷，每年選舉出來的夏威夷公主，都是百來斤重的。姆姆裝的設計恰巧符合了夏威夷婦女各種大小的體型。
